Decaf Divas.net is proud to be associated with Grounds for Health. GFH works to create sustainable and effective cancer screening programs in coffee-producing regions, collaborating with regional coffee unions, community members and local health care professionals to increase awareness about cervical and breast cancer and to improve the existing cancer prevention infrastructure. This goal is being accomplished by:

• Organizing cervical and breast cancer screening campaigns staffed by local health care providers and American volunteers.
• Providing equipment, training and technical assistance to our Latin American partners.
• Working with local hospital personnel to develop efficient record keeping and referral systems.
• Strengthening local treatment capacity.
• Developing a network of trained community health promoters.
• Educating women in the community about cervical cancer and empowering them to take control of their health and well-being.
• Building relationships between Latin American and American medical professionals and fostering a spirit of international exchange.

GFH results to date:

• More than 11,000 women have been screened, an average of more than 100 patients per day.
• Our screening results have documented a rate of abnormal Pap smears 2 to 4 times higher than that of the U.S., and a rate of invasive cervical cancer more than 30 times higher than in the U.S.
• Women with breast lumps receive Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) biopsies and are referred for further treatment when needed.
• Patients receive their results within a week of screening and are immediately referred for treatment.
• Over $25,000 worth of diagnostic and treatment equipment has been donated.
